Ladysmith School – SS #16 Moore – 1928: Miss Jessie Young, Teacher Back row – _____, _____, Jean Duncan, _____, Margaret Duncan. Front row – _____, _____, Evelyn Duncan, _____, Gerald Duncan, John Duncan.

Ladysmith derives its name from a famous battle of the Boer War in South Africa, as the post office opened in 1900, during that war.  The post office, located at Lot 22, Con. 2 Moore, operated until 1912.  School Section #16 Moore was located at Ladysmith.  The first school building dated to 1850, but this building was later moved off the site and used nearby for a hall.  A new school was built on the original site.  The Ladysmith school was used also for Sunday School and for a singing school.  No buildings remain to mark Ladysmith, but the school inscription board is mounted on a nearby farm building.
