Payne

(Hwy. 40 at Rokeby Line)

Payne was a post office named for Joshua Payne by Mr. F. F. Pardee, then MP for West Lambton.  Joshua Payne had settled in 1835 and was the father of Joseph Payne, the first postmaster.  The post office operated from 1908 until March 1, 1914, at Lot 24, Concession 8 Moore.
