(St. Clair Parkway between Courtright and Mooretown)

Established by Thomas Sutherland in 1833, Sutherland’s started with a dock to sell wood to the passing steamships.  By 1846, besides the wharf, the community boasted a tavern, doctor, store, two blacksmiths, tailor, shoemaker, school and Trinity Anglican Church.  A two-storey log building served as the first school in Moore, with a meeting hall and commissioner’s court on the second floor.  Overtaken in prominence by the establishment of Mooretown, Sutherland’s is now marked only by the cemetery, with public access gained by a private road.
